John Rein Was in the Rifle business from the early 1860's to 1870's This old rifle has a 32" octagon barrel, rounded at the muzzle The bore measures .38 , has a hooded front pin sight, has dovetail cut in the barrel no sight there, has large tang sight mounted on post , barrel marked "REIN NEW YORK " has patent breech, nicely shaped shield area around nipple unmarked lockplate has a nice smooth surface well formed hammer, both hammer and nipple clean and smooth. All metal surfaces are mostly dark with some staining, a little roughness on some areas, a few small dings on the edges of barrel flats . Walnut stock looks good , a few small dings and scratches, the checkering nice, not much wear. German silver nosecap, brass tips on the ramrod, all other fittings iron . Bore is nice with sharp lands and groves, one picture of bore shows the breech end, the other about halfway down, it gets darker towards the muzzle .
